Since the launch of EV-EON unnaturally carbonated drinking water, last April at E.ON’s Kingsnorth coal fired power station, it seems the innovative process has started to become mainstream.
China which is at the forefront of developing CCS will also have a plant up and running by July and according to Huaneng Power International will extract up to 3,000 tonnes each year and sell it to fizzy drinks companies like Coca-cola. Read more
Similar to EV-EON, Coke is using a ‘drink carbon save the planet’ narrative as has already proved effective with many other green products.
However, whilst this process of carbon capture does look promising it is unclear just how the company will restrain drinkers of the fizzy drinks from burping all that carbon dioxide back out into the atmosphere.
But then again detail has never been CCS’s strong point and it appears that, as at E.ON’s Kingsnorth site, CCS will again help make coal the real green alternative. Looks like Coke’s polar bear will keep his home after all.
